Welcome and Thank You for Visiting Gracie's Gowns

Picture
Gracie's Gowns started as a community service project with a deep desire to help children battling cancer and other life-threatening conditions, have something to smile about, something to help their stay be a little more comfortable...something that might give them hope to get through another day of treatments and the unknown. Or as simply put, to bring a little sunshine to their cloudy days.

Preemie isolette gowns are made from the remnants of the hos
pital gowns and donated to NICUs and even specialized pediatric intensive care units that care for infants that are under seven pounds.

Why have a homemade Hospital Gown?

Being in the hospital is no fun to begin with, but what makes the stay even worse is having to wear a ratty,worn-out gown, a gown that is too small or way too big. Our hospital gowns are designed to be fun, attractive, and functional. We look at the interest of each child they are requested for and pick a fabric that has one of those interests on it. There are no metal devices so no need to undress during medical procedures such as x-rays, MRIs and more.  They are easier on the skin because they are laundered in your detergent at home and not caustic chemicals in the hospital laundry. We pre-wash all our materials in homemade, natural laundry detergent before they are cut and sewn. They minimize the spread of germs because the are not touched by other patients or hospital staff. Each requested gown also has the child's name embroidered on it, to help them feel extra special and unique while staying in the hospital.

On February 4th, 2013 we were blessed with an amazing opportunity to share Gracie's Gowns during a television interview on the Virginia This Morning show on CBS6 Richmond in Richmond, VA. Thank you so much to Morgan for contacting us about doing an interview and to Jessica Knoll for being such a wonderful host and keeping my nerves together!

Gracie's Gowns ~ May2013

February 25th, 2013 we received our paperwork from the Commonwealth of Virginia that states we are operational in the state as a recognized nonprofit organization! We are registered with the IRS and have a EIN as well, this will allow us to purchase wholesale the items we would like or need to (where applicable) and help stretch every penny a little farther that is received.

A week later, our fundraiser ended early and we started the process of filing our 501(c)3 application with the IRS. We have a few more forms to fill out and then our application will be sent for determination by an examiner. Please keep us in your prayers for this to be approved! We've been working so hard and have so many wonderful plans for the future of Gracie's Gowns, but they all depend on this approval of our 501(c)3 status.

Our second sewing day is in a couple of days AND we have our first book sale and vendor event fundraiser coming up the first Sunday in June! If you're local come out and gets some great new and used books for awesome prices and see what local companies have to offer as well! Also local or not, we are interested in your book donations! Good to new condition books for all reading levels will be accepted.

Our second board meeting will be held towards the end of the month and we have invited anyone who is interested in getting hands on with Gracie's Gowns to attend the meeting, as we are still new, still organizing and still getting all our ideas together for what needs to be accomplished, what we want to do and when we can get everything in place. It is wonderful to have so many fantastic and willing people to help us get off the ground and get started!!

We are still looking to host some community sewing days (maybe one a month) locally (within a couple hours drive at most from where I live) that I can bring the requested gowns in various stages and we can all work together in getting them cut, embroidered, sewn, snapped and packaged! If you're interested in hosting a sewing day, please email me at jessica@graciesgowns.org

THANK YOU so much for your support!

Jessica
